Carl Magee: The Editor Who Cracked Teapot Dome, Shot a Judge and Invented the Parking Meter

Please join Jack McElroy, Author; Newspaper Editor and Journalist (Retired), for an ONLINE talk as part of our Friends of History Lecture Series. Carl Magee arrived in Albuquerque in 1919 and bought The Albuquerque Journal, then launched The Albuquerque Tribune.  The newspaperman was soon at war with New Mexico’s powerful political machine.  Magee later exposed the Teapot Dome bribery scandal that sent New Mexico’s first U.S. senator, Albert Fall, to prison.  Along the way, Magee had run-ins with a local judge and the law. Free admission to the show and museum!

Join us for the 2024 Native American Portal Artisans’ Winter Youth Show December 7 & 8th. Support the talents from the next generation of Native American artists and craftspeople. Youth artists ages five to seventeen who specialize in a variety of artistic mediums will be showcasing and selling their work in the museum’s main lobby.

Las Posadas on the Plaza

The 48th annual candle-lit procession of “Las Posadas” presented by the Holy Cross Catholic Church of Española, Coro Agua de Fria, and Santa Fe Fiesta, Inc.—reenacts the journey of Mary and Joseph as they searched for a place to stay in Bethlehem.  The procession travels around the Santa Fe Plaza and concludes at the Santa Fe Plaza Bandstand with traditional carols. Arrive to the Plaza at 5:00pm for candle preparations.

Holidays at the Palace

A free Santa Fe community favorite since 1982

“Holidays at the Palace” brings communities together for a beloved evening of hot cider, cookies, live local music, craft activities, and a visit from Santa Claus—all in the legendary Palace of the Governors.

Donations of non-perishable food will be collected for those in need.

Entrance for this event will be from the Palace portal at 105 W. Palace Ave, opposite the Santa Fe Plaza Bandstand.
