Twice annually the Portal Program hosts youth shows to showcase the art and crafts of young Native American artists. The Young Native Artists shows are typically held in July and December and feature artists ages five to seventeen who specialize in a variety of artistic mediums. Please view the upcoming events page for specific dates.
Youth artists who participate in these shows are often children and grandchildren of Portal Program participants. They sell their hand-made, traditional arts and crafts items. The events foster development of young artists and provide an opportunity for these artists to build confidence and communication skills as they interact with the public in discussion of their art. Children who participate in the youth shows often go on to become members of the Portal Program and leaders in the program as members of the Portal Committee.
